A Question of Freedom

A Question of Freedom

Synopsis

Soul Etchings

Dainen, and the men of his nemesis' company, are all tainted by an alien power that binds them to the king. This power is essentially the essence of a pair of opposed near omnipotent beings that crashed to earth from the heavens where they warred more than a thousand years in the past. Immortal an unable to die, their remains taint many of the vital natural and magical flows that lace the ground beneath the lands of this story. The power itself is alive, though only a fragment of the previous beings. Antithetical to its opposite number, it's goal is to recreate itself through the bodies of mortal followers and to seek the destruction of that other power. These were the gods of the warring nations who died in fire and upon whose ashes the current neighboring lands are built.

The entity within him was weakened nearly to the point of destruction by exposure to the power of its opposite, which is what has allowed him to escape.

The Devil You Know

The power sang through Dainen's soul, a discordant symphony of outrage and denial that summoned his every tightly suppressed fear. Crimson markings covering the majority of his body burned acidly, pulsing with a ruddy red light that shown through his deeply bronzed flesh.

Outline

Dainen lowers himself into a shaft leading into an undergound complex where his team expects to find another node of power for their King. The power in the place is forbidding and pushes back against him. The team has chosen him to go first, which he does, none to willingly.

- Mako taunts Dainen. Mocking half jokingly, the two are rivals. Dainen has no friends among the Hand. They dislike and fear him as he was an enemy before being taken by the King.
- The Captain simply watches, unyielding in an order already given.
- The markings burn in the power wafting up from below.
- Dainen is afraid, but attracted by the thought of death and oblivion.
