Armada 2526

In the wake of the disappointment that was Gratuitous Space Battles Armada 2526 came floating across my system today. It's a 4x space strategy game based on one of the same name from 1991. I had never heard of the 1991 original but the new version looks pretty cool from the descriptions and videos. According to avault and ebgames it actually released today; I went to look on impulse as they are a listed distributor but it doesn't seem to be available there yet. No luck finding a demo either. Ebgames has it listed for $39.99 which is more than I want to throw down on an unknown but I plan to keep an eye on the digital distribution channels for it to hit around 20 bucks or for a favorable review to come up someplace.

Elemental: War of Magic

Here's a PC game I'm really looking forward to. Billed as an unofficial sequel to Master of Magic, a game from the early 90s that I loved despite the idiotic AI that sucked away most of the challenge. It's a 4x game where you develop your cities and troops, ala any of the Civ games, but where you develop your mage's magical abilities instead of tech. Actually, judging by the screen shot below, it looks like you have both tech and spells to develop. At it's best, it's a combination of Civ and Populous. If the races and spells are even half as cool a MoM I'll be playing this for a long time. I played the GalCiv2 beta and really enjoyed it, as well as getting to make suggestions that were actually folded into the shipping game.  Should be out in September of this year, assuming the beta testing goes well.

Sword of the Stars

Well I was up until 4am this morning with a new game Called Sword of the Stars. It's like a master of orion class game but with more emphasis on ship design and combat with small world system. It's pretty good and has a multi player component. The combats can be manually fought and have a low end home wordesk kind of look. They are phased RTS meaning the engine is turn based but the flow feels real time, kind of like a MMO. The tactile map is big and Bright, in the game I am playing there is lots of tech to research with dynamic tree's and linking and a ton of worlds to explore out to and colonize.

Anyway, if you have it and want to multi player lets give it a try.

If you want to check it out there is a demo

The tutorial in game is awful, just flip through the pdf manual in the directory and everything is pretty clear.
