I have owned a PS3 for about a year now and honestly I have often regretted the purchase.  Finally though a game has come along that made it worth having.  InFamous is a superpowered sandbox type game along the lines of Crackdown.  You play as Cole, a bike messenger who gains lightning controller powers when a package he is delivering explodes in his hands.  The government locks the city down under quarantine to contain the resulting plague and presumably all the other powered people and mutants in the area.  The story is driven along by various contacts including FBI agents, shadow government agents, your pissed off Dr. girlfriend, and others.  They really do a nice job of keeping things going and there are lots of interesting twists to the story along the way.  It took me around 20-25 hours to finish all the story missions and about half of the optional side quests.  I could probably have gone through 40-50 hours easily if I had really pushed to complete everything but I didn't want to burn out before I finished the story and besides it was a rental so I wanted to get through it fairly quickly.  The powers are all really cool, and the environment is pretty well done though not as destructable as I would have liked.  You can blow up cars and whatnot but the buildings themselves are pretty static.  Travel along power lines is a fun idea for getting around the city and it actually requires a fair amount of practice to get good enough at it to keep moving without having to stop all the time.  I played through on the, "good," tree and feel like I am done but I wouldn't mind hearing how the evil tree works out if anyone goes that route.  Bottom line: if you own or have access to a PS3 this is a really good game to get for it.

PS3

Rick and I were just talking about this the other day. Frankly, the PS3 is a better piece of hardware. The wireless works much better and is included, the menu is still better organized and more usable, and the wireless controllers are better for those with small hands (not myself), as well as rechargeable directly on the console. It is certainly more reliable and plays old PS2 games (like Bard's Tale.) The exclusive games also tend not to appear as PC games, so that's another point in the PS3's favor.

Valkyria Chronicles and the God of War series are real PS3 draws, game-wise, and my kids love Little Big Planet. The Champions of Norath games (Baldur's Gate: Dark Alliance in the world of EQ) and Bard's Tale are examples of excellent PS2 games I'd miss if I only had a 360.

All that said, X-Box live Arcade and the Netflix Viewer are compelling arguments for the 360. For play of family games, you can't beat Live Arcade and it's collection of board games translated into X-Box games, as well as the latest generation of Scene-it games. Mass Effect and the Marvel Utlimate Alliance games are X-Box only, but the fact that I can play them on my PC makes this less compelling.

Overall, it's a wash, IMO. Valkyria Chronicles alone just about justified the PS3 purchase, from my perspective. If I could only have one, my knee jerk reaction would be to keep my PS3 (and thus the Blue-Ray player), but it's really a wash.
