Pixar's new masterpiece, Up!, was simply fantastic IMO. I laughed, I cried (almost), I kissed $10 bucks goodbye ($50 if you count the family, popcorn, et al.)! It was by turns, and often simultaneously, funny, endearing, exciting, and worth some post-movie pondering. I liked it about as well as Finding Nemo, which remains my top 5 animated films of all time, following The Incredibles and The Iron Giant. This film is in the mold of Nemo and Toy Story, a movie with nuanced themes to appeal to adults and children of all ages.
Just see it.

counter point
I enjoyed the movie, but found a bit too much of the Pixar formula sticking out. Don't get me wrong, there were lots of funny moments, and it is a good formula. But I found myself thinking "why did they do that... Oh that is why" instead of just enjoying the movie. Another way of putting it - I think the plot was driven more by "this would make a great gag" than because of background and character.
I thought there were some good lessons here (and I liked the concept of actually having old people in a movie). But I also thought the moralization was more overt and manipulating - again some sacrifice of the the story for overt reasons.
I still give it 3 stars out of 4, and the younger audience probably won't notice the issues that reduced my enjoyment.
