I spent a few quality hours with Wolverine for the PC the other night. I have not seen the movie yet so I can't comment on it's liberties but it dose succeed in making want to go see it more. I have to say, surprisingly, I'm really enjoying the game. Usually anything based on a movie is a garbage release, and while the game dose show some lack of engine polish it doesn't cut into the fun factor. Unlike the last console port I tried to play (H.A.W.X) Wolverine is quite playable with mouse and keyboard though hooking the controller up might smooth out some combo's. something to try later.
Lots of little video technical glitches, some weird refresh bugs and artifacts but nothing play stopping as of yet.
The story is delivered through a river of time as you jump around periods The graphics, aside from the bugs, are good, the art style is pretty conventional but well polished and fits some elements shine. The environments are marginal destructible and can be used to quick kill bad guys if you toss them the right way.
But all that doesn't really mean much, what makes it work? It's a bloody, and I mean limb rending, body splitting blood letting, bloody experience. The controls, motions leaping clawing feels 'right', there is economy of motions and power driving the toon that just works and can grab you with a really good visceral sensation. It's kind of scratching my Diablo itch for some reason that I can't put my finger on.
The designers throw in a few nods to other game types, there is a bare bones leveling system and you can put points into this or that to pump skills ups. You get better at fighting certain monsters the more you fight them. The combo system is pretty accessible, I'm a bit of a button masher in fighters but even I can squeeze off two or three move combo's without breaking a sweat.
So far the boss fights are kind of ho-hum, mainly they consist of dodging around until you can leap on the big, whatever it is, back and try to tear off it's head before it smacks you off, rinse lather repeat.
Bottom line for me is, fun ride, I woke up this morning wanting to play some more (but couldn't cause I don't really want to have the five year wonder in while I'm ripping some bad guys to little tiny bloody bits). Make no mistake it's a rail shooter/fighter and you just cut along the path but so far that has been pretty entertaining.

Ah see, no PlayStation so
Ah see, no PlayStation so despite allays hearing good things about GOW I have never played so no basis for comparison. that does give me some hope though since I gather the next GOW game will be cross platform.
Kratos anyone?
Just finished the demo on 360. I hadn't gotten it from the review but this is totally God of War but with Wolverine instead of Kratos. Good news for me, I dug the God of War series (Playstation exclusive I think.)
The Avatars, Argonessen Server
Assins creed
My advice is do the first 3 or 4 missions then put it down and walk away. If you do slag through to the end then be sure to stop after the last boss fight, don't keep going or much anger and cursing will be yours :).
Sounds like a fun weekend game
Huh cool, sounds like something to fill a couple days this summer. I finally played through assassin's creed after like a year just recently. It was like my 3rd try at getting into it but I did finally have the right mindset going to enjoy it quite a bit. Sounds like Wolverine will be that kind of game.
Finished it
I finished it up tonight, it's not a supper long run but the story arch pulled me through a couple of puzzles (one was just annoying). I fair amount of find the key push the widget kind of stuff, tomb raider, but all and all the game play kept pace and didn't get to repetitive (like say Assassins creed). It had a decent enough ending though (unlike Assassins creed). There where a couple odd edits towards the end and a time shift that clearly needed a setup transition that was just missing, Over all it was worth playing through. I even was amused enough to unlock a couple of the other outfits (). It's worth mentioning I played through the second half of the game with the 360 controler, arguable the game controler was better for this game then the mouse and keyboard.
