So, first I'm posting this over here in the forum because only registered users can read it. Why? I'm pretty sure I clicked through some sort of NDA crap to beta test champions. I'm not one for respecting NDA's to much but no sense in just being rude about it.
I could say a lot of negative things about my first time in the current built state of Champions, given my generally pessimistic outlook it would be easy as pie to bash pretty much everything from start to finish. I'm not going to do that, to easy.
Here is what I liked or got my attention:
The character builder. You can make some amazingly cool tunes, just clicking random over and over again showed a remarkable verity and diversity... some of which I would not have been ashamed to play (um... ok 2 out of 100 maybe). Anyway, there where some things missing but I saw very few look a likes running around the servers.
The art style is really unique and I honestly don't know if I like it or hate it, maybe a little of both but I think it really captures a older comic book type feeling with heavy inking and funky distance perspective blurring.
World changing instances. I thought it was cool that we could fight our way through a big boss fight and then come out and be in a new part of the world with different stuff going on it felt like we had done something. Not sure how that kind of stuff will work past the first tutorial type adventure though but that part of the experience gave me some hope for how they might implement that game element.
Clipping. Yep, clipping for character intersect movement and maybe for powers or some powers it was hard to tell. Still they might have something there.
Combat had a real time feel but really was just fast turn phases just like most MMO's.
Capes. :)
I didn't get to try out the travel powers but we did see some folks flying around. Looked cool.
The combat seemed interesting at times, there is this odd element that mobs will drop little power ups that you can grab in the middle of the fight to heal or charge up and stuff. This is in addition to the body drops that you get at times... not sure how I feel about that game play element but at times it was very handy for our small group.
There is a lot of could rag on but these where the elements that most stuck out at me.
This is now on my dubious but worth keeping a eye on list.
