Just found out Eureka Season 3 won't resume until July 7. At least it's coming back.
Amazon just informed me that the 3rd David Weber novel in the Off Armageddon Reef series will be shipping in July. By Heresies Distressed. This is a *GREAT* series if you haven't checked it out.
Amazon canceled my order for the new Name of the Wind novel, with prejudice. It was supposed to be out in April. I can find no new on this title.
Initial reviews on the new Dresden novel, Turncoat, are mixed. Sounds like the Black Council plot line didn't move forward much and it's getting labeled as filler.

Out of the Shadows
I just finished this latest installment in David Weber's fantastic Honor Harrington series. This is actually one of the two parallel plot lines and features Michelle Henke attempting to consolidate control of the Talbot Cluster while the Mesan Alignment finally launches its end game. These books will never be as good as the first 7 or so Honor novels. His plot has just grown too large and complex (note that he's now writing the story in THREE parallel series) to be contained in a single book, and so it lacks the excellent pacing and fulfillment that characterized those earlier and simpler efforts. The scope requires more exposition than can possibly be good for pacing.
All that said, if you're still enjoying the Honor series after the last book, this and its sister series are must reading to really appreciate everything that's going on. The characters are still great, the combat and technology is still the best out there, but the focus has shifted to telling the story of the Star Empire through the eyes of these characters, rather than telling the story of the characters themselves. Still good stuff, but not the same as what caused me to fall in love with this series in the first place.
Turn Coat
I just finished Turn Coat and strongly disagree with most of you. This book is as good or better than the first book, and certainly better than the last one. It is exactly the sort of story that made this series what it is, features many great moments and a more direct connection between Harry and members of the White Council than previous stories. It's neither filler, nor as jumbled as the last entry in the series.
All that aside, it's just an excellent read. Even the last book was enjoyable, but this was a return to the sort of story that made the Dresden series one of the most enjoyable I've ever read. I laughed out loud many times reading this one and smiled almost all the way through.
As for Harry having a shelf life, while I can see what (I think) you're referring to Mike, I'm not really with you. Dresden could continue for as long as Butcher continues to have stories to tell, and the gaps could get quite long (ala C.S. Friedman and the sequel to In Conquest Born), but he certainly hasn't written himself into a corner where he must end the series.
Thanks Nick! Really, I'd
Thanks Nick! Really, I'd rather have it late and good than early and... not. It makes me angry that I don't have the 2nd book now, but not at the author. It's just a general anger at having to wait. I suspect this one will be worth waiting for.
LOL, well ok. The magic of
LOL, well ok.
The magic of communcation smooths a lot of ruffled feathers. My instincts is allways just to blame the publisher anyway, but I have no problem with a it's done when it's done kind of thing from the creator.
Amazon's projected releases always suck
Here's what Rothfuss says, umm, sort of:

I think I'm going to start reading his blog after finding this.

Hope Chuck doesn't get the axe
I like Reaper a lot in the first couple of seasons but yeah this season doesn't have the same feel. I am still really enjoying Chuck though so I hope it doesn't get dumped. I had high hopes for Dollhouse but it never really grabbed me like Buffy did. But hey maybe if Whedon gets off Dollhouse he will do something cool with Dr. Horrible :)
The Kim Harrison series has a lot to like if you can get past the weird vampire sexual tension thing.
Bummer about Reaper though
Bummer about Reaper though no shocker this season has been a bit more hit or miss with me, same with Terminator, time to trade dark moodiness for some run and gun :).
At Doug's recommendation I am checking out the Kim Harrison series the Hollows. The first book was pretty good and got me curious to see where the world goes.
The most important aspect of the word is some horrible biology experiment went haywire and wiped out most the population. The delivery method was through tomatoes (something I am not fond of). So they universally reviled by man kind. With man kind circling the drain the races stepped out from the shadows and have sorta of reintegrated, accept the Elvs who where completely wiped out by to much cross breading with humans :).
AICN reports that Reaper,
AICN reports that Reaper, and Terminator: the Sara Connor Chronicles are almost certain to be canceled. Doll House, Chuck, and Better Off Ted are on the bubble. Those 5 would wipe out the majority of my TV viewing.
BTW, if you haven't seen it, the "new" Wolverine and the X-Men animated series is stellar. It's appears to be made by the same folks who did the older X-Men series, but the stories are much better focused on specific main characters and lack the frenzied disorganization that characterized the first series.
Just to back up things I've said previously; I've just seen the second disk of the first season of the HBO series Rome. It may be the best thing on TV since the first two seasons of BSG and the excellent West Wing series.
I just started Turncoat, but
I just started Turncoat, but given the length and breadth of the plot on the Dresden series, there had to be at least lulls if not an ending. The fantasy series, Codex Alera, is absolutely fantastic and a must read for any Butcher (or heroic fantasy) fan. I thought the last book failed to live up to the ever improving standards of the first nine.
Less Filling?
Just finished the book last night. I feel thatDresden may now have a shelf life issue. The series may be getting close to the expiration date. Won't elaborate for fear of spoilage, but wonder if Butcher’s heart may be totally in his fantasy series now.
Yep, it's filler but tasty

Krod just proves you can't for force camp. Go check out the pod casts of the guild for some pop contrast
Krod Mandoon
Bummer about the delay on Eureka; that was one of my favorite shows last summer.
I caught the first couple episodes of Krod Mandoon and the Flaming Sword of Fire on Comedy Central the other day. It has obviously been heavily influenced by Conan but it also had a bit of an Order of the Stick feel to it for me. It tries a little too hard to be spoofy and was only marginally entertaining but it has some potential to work itself into something pretty good. Worth a look if you are into the whole spoofy fantasy thing.
