I've created a new web based software tool called Visionary. It's a HARP combat tracker and the new is version 0.2. If you're in the HARP campaign, you already have an account, and I'd appreciate it if you'd login (your first name, with the password changeme, except in the case of Kirsten and Mel where I've used your usual passwords) and create a template for your character in the Bestiary. I hope most of it is self explanatory, but where it's not obvious, most fields can be editied by double clicking on them. Exceptions to the first name account rule are: Kirsten=synedra, Mike MacDonald=Mac, Mike McKay=Michael, Mike Jones=szaijan.
Note: The Javascript does not work in Internet Explorer. I don't know why. It didn't seem to work in Firefox 2, but worked fine on Susan's system. Caveat emptor. To the best of my knowledge, it works quite well in Safari and Firefox 3, on PC, Mac, or Unix/Linux.
Note: The new version is running on Slicehost and should be available 24x7.
If you're not in the campaign but would like to play with the tool, let me know and I'll make you an account.

I don't see any blank
I don't see any blank characters. Are you certain you double clicked on the '-' button to delete them? Single clicking does nothing.
changed!
I went in and changed my password, saw my character and it is fine. The form looks pretty good. I somehow inadvertantly added 2 blank characters that I could not delete. Or at least they show up with me as the user, and stats are rolled, but no character name or other personal info is added. What's up with that?

Feature Creep
Not sure what you mean by able to edit "everything" Griffon. If you're logged in as you, you should be able to add a new character to the selected game, if you're a player in it, and edit your existing character(s) (including deleting them.) What else is open to you? You should not see a '-' button next to other people's characters, or games or encounters unless you own them (i.e. you're the GM.) When I log in as you, that's how it works. What are you seeing different?
Also, as far as "seeing nothing" when you don't have a Game selected, are you seeing the big title that say "Select a Game?"
Right now, I'll try masking off the tabs that aren't useful without a game selected, until and unless one is selected, and I'll do the same for Encounters and the Combatant and Melee tabs.
As for showing just games you have a character in on the Game tab and just your characters on the Characters tab, that's a good idea. I'll make it so sometime in the near future.
Couple quick thoughts, and
Couple quick thoughts, and this might be either as intended or based on my privlage. When I loged in and then selected the character tab I saw nothing. What I would have expected to see was a list of charters and the campaigns they are in. ie more of a My Character screen. I then selected the campaign and went back to the character screen and saw everything, and be able to change it. Which would make sens as admin/gm but not a player IMO. I think this becomes more of an issue if hte GM want to start adding foot notes or stat adjustments to characters (which should probable be it's own linked secure area anyway.
Hows that for 10 seconds of feature creep :)

Okay, uninformed folks like me need to know where to find the url. help....I will update it if I can find it. And do we have any idea when we will be playing again?

Revision 0.4
Rewrote the Javascript layer using MochiKit 1.4, Should work in IE now, though the 'fantasy' font looks hideous. I guess I need to look at embedding specific fonts now. I'd pretty much still steer clear of IE, but I do that anyway.
This tool should be ready to roll for us. PLEASE go in and change your password from 'changeme' and make sure your character is entered correctly. Everyone already has a character in the tool, but I lost Naomi and Valens' stats in the transition.
Latest Enhancements - Permissions
GMs can (and must) now add players to a game in the Players tab, which should be visible only to the owner of the selected Game.
Players should have permission to create new templates in Character and Bestiary tabs, delete their templates, and to edit actions for combatants based on their character templates (only.)
Anyone can still create a game, but only GMs should be able to edit Games (their own), add/remove/edit encounters, templates, and combatants from their games.
Super Users can still do everything, of course, but there's only one of those.
Please let me know if you see any bugs.
ah ok, i was entering
ah ok, i was entering telshaw again so that probable explain is. Needs return name allready exists dialog.
Console Updated
OK, I moved the console to the top and it now appears when an error occurs (i.e. you try to create a character with the same name as another character in the same game), and disappears again when any new action is taken without an error. Let me know how it works for you.
Thanks for the input. The
Thanks for the input. The '+' button in the character screen works fine for me, logged in as you or myself, in Safari and in FF 3b5. Is it possible you were trying to create a character without entering a name? Or perhaps trying to enter a character named 'Tellshaw' when there already is one?
If so, the error console should have appeared at the bottom. Maybe I need to put it at the top...

Looks a lot cleaner has a nice smooth uniform feel to it now, good job, but nothing happens on the character screen when I click the + (tried bunch fo time, went away, came back etc). Worked before for me. this is on FF 3 b5. I also tried in Safari. I like dht addition of hte intro duction page too.
The site has been moved to
The site has been moved to Slicehost. Please login, change your password and edit your character in the 'Character' tab. Info from last game has not been migrated, so please make the time to do this before the next game.
HTML and css has been improved across the board. Susan, please take a look and let me know what you think.
The Melee tab has been enhanced... actions now automatically have their status updated to 'Completed' when moving to the next action via the '>' button.
Action Types, Action Status, and Combatant Status types are still being input.
HP and SP columns are wider to allow for 100+ HP/SP.
Account registration and password change/reset are now functional, with an e-mail based two step process.
The home page now has links to account functions and some instructions.
If you are a staff member (only Griffon and myself, at the moment), you will see an Admin tab which will allow direct access to user data and the full database.
Now I need to get permissions working properly...
Incremental Update
Tool layout should be more liquid now. No set size and all measurements in em (relative to font size.)
Added a Character tab and hid the 'party' field for templates. Now the PCs show on that tab and monsters on their own. Thank Griffon for this if you like it.
Changed the formatting for the multi-field cells (i.e. the Bestiary.) Let me know what you think.
Need to work on permissions. Pretty flexible in Django, but the Javascript part of it is less flexible.
Oh oh oh, duh movement rate,
Oh oh oh, duh movement rate, for some reason having it in line with the remittances made me not be able to see the tree through the forrest :).
The reason I suggested doing it as a druapl module is then all the lifting is done for you, your just adding space to the db that folks already have the same as the other modules.
I'll think about something more constructive to say on the formating issue. I need to look at the other elements to, I just glanced at them tonight.
At a basic level the spread sheets are just CVS so they can probable be grabbed that way since we can see the table names, but that is probable less important then a usable combat control :).
Thanks for the feedback
Thanks for the feedback Griffon.
Probably a no on the community. I don't have time to run the kind of three ring circus that turns into, though I thought of making a zip file available to intrepid souls on the HARP user list who might want to share templates and give feedback. Currently, the setup is simply too hairy... Apache 2, Mod-Python, Django, Python 2.5, PostgresQL, psycopg2... It was a bear. I don't care to do tech support for others trying to set it up.
I can work on the CSS and make it fluid. Likely that'll come next. I'll set up most measurements based on em instead of pixels and that'll help.
I don't care for the Bestiary or Combatant formatting either. I'm open to suggestions on a better way to handle it. Susan suggested that I make the labels less prominent and the data moreso, which makes sense.
You can edit all stats on the Melee tab manually and they'll carry over round to round, so you can account for differing weapons, shields, chi moves, et. al. The tool just won't do it automatically. I thought to eventually have different attack/spell types you could select in addition to the action types, and each would modify OB/DB, as well as having crit table lookups, but that's also far down the line. You may not have noticed, but bleeding and stun are incremented automatically as rounds change.
Note that most players can't delete a campaign. I assigned you as a Super-User, so you can. Other than Super-Users, only the owner of a game should be able to delete Games, Encounters, Templates and Combatants.
I have no idea how to import from a spreadsheet, and I'm not aware of any other credible tools for HARP. I plan a CSV import for templates in general, but that's a few phases off.
Negative values are already supported.
It's BMR, and it stands for Base Movement Rate.
Perceptions a good candidate for another column... not sure if it's worth the added space. This isn't intended to replace character sheets, but it could definitely help the GM for MOB perception.
cool beans
Cool stuff Mike, very groovy of you to work on this!
