Various notes on the tactics used by the group.
Open Terrain Marching Order:
- Scouts: Raja, Shayla
- Battle: Kava, Astrid, Dyson
- Reserve: Helga, Imheil, Tovor
The scouts normally start up front but fade back in combat. The battle group is best armored, and tries to stick together as a battle group. The reserve group is less cohesive, Helga and Imheil usually head towards trouble spots. Tovor seeks the safest place (with the contradictory goal of good visibility), which may or may not be with the rest of the reserve group.
Single File Marching Order:
Shayla (35' in advance)
Raja
Astrid
Imheil
Dyson
Tovor
Helga
Kava

We should go NOW.
That fight on the chain took a lot out of Raja (used all daily abilities I think) so he's not at peak fighting trim. That said, we need to just get it over with, and engage one of the two tests.
This is pretty much what he will say:
“This place seems to like to present options – go forward, or go back for more loot, stay and fight more undead for more loot, high-tail it out with the stuff you’ve got, etc. The climb up the shaft is pretty easy, I think most of us can make it with little effort, but I can tell you that once we get up top that Bullette is going to jump us, and fast. It could sense me when I was moving around, and getting Xan or Astrid up there is going to ring the dinner bell big-time.”
“The Kobolds I think is going to be another type of thing – I think we may have an option not to fight. Looking at that cave, we may be able to work our way though it without engaging an army – but I would bet anything there are other captives, and we are going to be given the choice of rescuing or leaving them. This place is constantly testing us – always watching.”
“As usual boss, I’ll back your play, but here’s what I suggest. Send me and the elf to check out the cave, find the exits, and see what’s what. If we find the way out we can hopefully get us out of here without a fight, and I think we need to move NOW. That was a party, and if we missed the opportunity to sneak by during the party we at least have a chance during the post party crash when all the little Kobold boys and girls are getting busy or drunk, or both.”
You couldn't see the captive
You couldn't see the captive well enough to guess at race or even sex. Too far away. However, it was significantly larger than a kobold.
It's way too early in the day for another extended rest. Another 12-16 hours at least. If you want one, you'll need to camp for essentially two days, and food could become an issue.
Light sources were a huge bonfire and the gold-green glow of the dragon.
Once the bonfire is allowed to die down, you can no longer see, but the group disperses about the cave when the ritual ends (another 2 hours or so.) You see the dragon sink back beneath the surface of the lake.
You have no view of whatever occupies the cave outside the light of the bonfire. Everything is too far away for dark or low light vision.
You really have no where to practice with the cape unless you kill or make some sort of peace with the griffons. They do no speak and are definitely counted as "beasts".
The mushroom song does not appear to be language of any sort.
Under the Mountain
A number of items. My mind was pretty much mush at the end of the last game.
The cloak. Want this examined closely for workmanship. Can we determin what race may have made it? Also, a probably use for the cloak is traveling from the top of one mountain to another lower location. Interesting. As it makes good nesting material, there may have been others under the remaining griffins. A choice for us whether to kill them all and search their nests or not. I think we made the correct choice but I should have spoken to them in both common and elvin that not killing them was our gift to them.
I believe Raja is correct in that we were given a clear cloice of actions. Do we go for obvious material treasure or do we look into a possible great evil? Thinking about the sacrifice, the kobolds could have been sacrificing their own. The Aztecs would have considered this a great honor. The sacrificee would have been drugged to make it more pleasant. The fact that we observed the being tied up leads me to think he/she may have been a captive. The area we saw appears to be large enough to support two races; perhaps constantly at war. The kobolds seemed to have plenty of morsels to feed to the dragon so, if this is true, they are probably winning. We need to find out more.
I think an extended rest at the water is in order. I want a 24 hour watch at the tunnel mouth. I can do this as I do not need true sleep along with others. Probably a max of two of us can watch out the opening Raja supplied. Good job, but the way. Beyond general info, I am especially interested in the size of the sacrifices. Larger than a kobold? Where does everyone go when feeding is over? Both the kobolds and the dragon. What can we determine about the light source? Do we see animals and if so, what kind? Oh, and the tracks we found in the tunnel; how old? Recent or long ago?
I actually see us staying here a longer period of time. I would like to see some practice with the cape. It might be important. Also, I want more exploring where Raja went. Raja and another excellent climber. Not taking any undue chances but I want more info on the mushrooms including the song they are singing if it is more than random noise.
Does this make sense? Any suggestions?
