So after last night when Rick was talking about Borderlands I was inspired to go take another look at it. I'm still somewhat indifferent to the single player game after having played through the nine-toes fight with both soldier and sniper classes but if it's ever going to be fun I think it will be in multiplayer. Any interest in trying to get a game going this Thursday evening?

Yeah respaw is anoying. Just part of the static level design and zero state restart.
We where playing l4d2 last night and I was contemplating what sets it apart, other then being a totaly different game type that is, and each time you run a mission it changes in different dynamic ways. You have to adapt stratigy and resource usage on the fly. You are never sure if stuff will be in same place or what danger will come pouring out at you, or when. That gives a much longer shelf life.
On the plus side for BL there are a lot more missions including the dlc... But once you have done them once I certainly would disinclined to run them agin, for knowlege kind of trashes it. Same with boss fights, oh let's just kite him around since it's optimal, then off to the next.
it's not bad and coop when stuff is fresh is fun, but feels like there is not much of a deeper game play element (collect, level) then wow. Not exactly adrenilan pumping though.
Needs less respawn
Game could use less respawn. I find the 3 guys who run over from bonewhosits area every single time you go back to town particularly irritating.
The boss fights are more fun in multiplayer. I imagine the "boss must not catch you in melee range" ones will be vastly better in multiplayer, where only one person at a time will have to spend most of their time running.
I'll play a Soldier. We
I'll play a Soldier. We have 5 people interested, we could rotate with everybody taking a night off each month so everybody can play. Nothing says we can't play multiples of the same class, either, if multiple people are in love with the same class.
Border team
I could make a weekly thing of this.
Happy sticking with the hunter.
I'll probably play the siren a bit more offline, or I could swap them if that works better.
Not sure why you wouldn't be
Not sure why you wouldn't be able to do multiplayer, the pairing is pretty slick. Uses a gamespy account, which is free, and which you can set-up from inside the game if you don't have one. Then one person hosts a private internet game, adds everbody to his friends list and invites them into the game. If we're all in Vent, should be a snap.
I played a bit last night.
I played a bit last night. All I can say so far is I like the art style. Reminds of that old Lucas arts game where you sre a biker in a post apoc' world. Not sure if I can do multiplayer but we can probable do a simulated LAN or something. I'll mess around with it after dinner.
I'm happy to play anything.
I'm happy to play anything. I have a 4th level Brick (I think), a 14th Soldier and a 14th Siren. All good. I'll check into tonight after I watch Justified. Likely around 10 pm.

Fine by me, I played a soldier up through 9 toes but haven't tried Brick. Either of those would be cool with me.
Hunter
If you don't mind, Doug, I think I'll play a Hunter--haven't been able to play one with my kids or Mike yet. I don't know if Mike will join us, but he has a Siren right now--not sure what he'll play if he joins us with some newbie characters. You interested in trying a Soldier or Brick?
9pm Thursday is fine
See you then.
Not sure how long term this
Not sure how long term this will be but lets plan for 9:00 this Thursday? I am good to play any class other than siren I think.
I concur. Everyone is DPS.
I concur. Everyone is DPS. Personally, I like Brick's Action ability the best so far. Phase walking's cool, but way too short.
Sure
I'm in. Just tell me what time.
The game started to get more interesting to me after about level 10-12, after the character build actually started to matter. And it was definately more fun as a multi-player game.
I'd like to get a 4 man dedicated group going once a week, if enough people have the game and like it well enough to play for a while. Be nice to play one of each class, but I suppose that's too much to hope for. For what it's worth, I'll play whatever nobody else wants to.
Hunter=ranged dps (sniper rifles and pistols)
Siren=elemental dps (any weapon that does elemental damage)
Brick=tank/melee/explosive dps (any explosive weapons/fists)
Soldier=support/healing/turret (assault rifles/shotguns)
Don't think the soldier can't dps--this is a fighting game, there is no stand around and heal the tank when his health bar dips down type roles. He actually does his healing with his attacks...
