Here's a pretty cool game that came my way this morning. It's called Torchlight and it's basically a Diablo clone but it is a really good one. You have 3 playable classes and you also get a pet dog or wildcat to help you in battle and as a bonus you can send the pet off to sell off junk while you keep adventuring. There's a pretty good demo up for free on Steam and the full game is only 20 bucks. Well worth it in my book.

One thing I heartily proved

One thing I heartily proved of was when I bought the full version via steam the demo is just auto magically upgraded and I didn't need to start over. this game is pretty long, it just seems to keep going and going. That is not a good thing since the game play dose not mix up much. It is fun but I'm starting to hit the grind feel down past the lava prison levels.

Maleware?

Is that like some sort of new-fangled cod piece?

Demo

I've played the demo a little bit .. tempted to get the whole thing, but I'm not convinced yet.

Its like they took the World out of World of Warcraft. Which strikes me as funny thinking back on the people who said blizzard should make World of Diablo instead of World of Warcraft. Comparing this and D2 makes me think maybe they were right.

Interesting implementation of dual wielding gun+sword. Although, it doesn't seem like dual pistols shoot any fater then one? Maybe it just relies on the +dual wield damage skill to make it worth it?

Fate:Traitor Soul, on the other hand, seems to be dubiousware. Neither Fry's had it in stock, and its demo is released on some kind of nigh-maleware widgit, and didn't even load properly to boot. Buh-bye maleware demo.

Torchlight is a really good

Torchlight is a really good Diablo clone, but IMO it's less, rather than more. The cartoonish presentation lacks the dark storyline and atmosphere evoked by Diablo and really feels like a coin op game. Overall, a very good game if you like the genre, but lacking in anything attractive to those who tired of Diablo's repetition before the end of Diablo II. While I'm impressed, I'm not really tempted to spend quality time with the game.

EDIT: Harrumph! Played through the demo at lunch. Like Diablo, it's a bit addicting and I'd likely pay the $20 for the full game, despite my bias against mindless repetition, were it not for Dragonage coming out tomorrow.

Titan Quest was a good one

Titan Quest was a good one too. The end was a little frustrating when I wasn't tough enough for the last boss without a bunch of extra grinding though.

No steampunk :(

Thats funny, I was just thinking about getting Fate:Traitor Soul. I didn't play the first 2 versions of it, but hey .. steampunk class ..

Anyone tried both?

I've been playing some $5 Titan Quest from the direct2drive sale.

Lol

Wow, way more then just a clone. Even the town music is true to diablo form. Though much like d3 will be it's pretty colorful. What fun :), I'm on the fence about buying but the demo dose pleas so far.

steam

doug mentioned there was a demo on steam. I'm going to check that out.
