EDIT: Changed the default policy to use what's in the Character Builder/Compendium. Added an exceptions section.

Errata: Please make certain your rules knowledge includes the rules from the latest D&D Errata. Each player should print out the errata pertinent to their character and keep those sections available during each game.

We will be using the rules out of the 4th edition Players Handbook, Dungeon Master's Guide, and Monster Manual, pretty much verbatim. All other rules will be adopted on a case by case basis, but in general I plan to include the rules added to the D&D Compendium where possible. In addition to the core books, we are currently using:

Rule Books

  • Core Rulebooks (Player's Handbook, Monster Manual, Dungeon Master's Guide)
  • Player's Handbook II & III
  • Adventurers Vault I & II
  • Forgotten Realms Player's Guide.
  • Manual of the Planes
  • Martial Power
  • Arcane Power
  • Divine Power
  • NOTE: we're using the PHB I gods and religions, not those from FRPG.

Not Using

  • Psion Class
  • Warforged Race
  • Eberron Specific Items, except as explicitly adopted.
  • Hybrid class rules.

Essentials Changes

Mac and Frank have introduced me to D&D Essentials over the last couple of weeks, and the following link includes many errata and changes to the PHB that arise from D&D Essentials.  All of these are official changes and will be used in our game.  This most heavily affects the base classes, Rogue, Fighter, Cleric, and Wizard, but I suggest everyone review their character builds in the new on-line Character Builder to see what's changed for your class.  They've "fixed" quite a few things.  At a minimum, every race now has an option to their stat bonuses that wasn't there before, and humans can choose a new encounter power rather than a third At-Will power if they like.  Something for everyone.

Really, the core of the updates impacts the offensive firepower of monsters higher than 10th level, where they were heavily underpowered in Monster Manuals 1 & 2.  The Monster Vault updates much of this, and I have both the book (thanks Mike!) and access to the monsters through the compendium.  Since I plan to use the iPlay4e combat tracker, inCombat 4e, this will be a big boon to us going forward.
